My name is Natasha Carty and I’m an illustrator living in sunny Brisbane, Australia. When I’m not working on my next children’s book, I sometimes find myself illustrating weird things like pirate maps and wanted-posters for the film and television industry. I also run an award-winning greeting card company, and I like to imagine my cards carrying their messages of love to people all around the world. Every day you’ll find me rotating cups of coffee, tea and milo, listening to current affair podcasts and making snacks for my two adorable children.
I have a rather colourful background and could tell you stories about escaping charging goannas by running on the back of old oil drums, or hiding in the back of University lecture theatres as a kid, while my Dad gave lessons in animation.
As a grown up, the colourful theme continues. I’ve studied Fine Art, Photography and Graphic Design. I’ve lived in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, LA and London. I own an award-winning greeting card company, that distributes cards all over the world. I work in film and television, using my illustration and design skills to create graphical props and set dressing - with my most recent titles including “Eden” - Directed by Ron Howard, Disney’s “Nautilus”, Mortal Kombat 2, Rocketman and many more. And I now have four published childrens books with three more on the way.
Like my life, my illustration style is colourful, bold and a little bit weird -
with lots of layers and textures and bits flying in from everywhere. I use a mix of gouache, watercolours, pens, pencils, inks and digital techniques to create my whimsical, colourful characters and worlds.
